Not all stories are fairy tales; some are quiet chronicles of lives wrapped in pain, resilience, and survival where the magic lies not in enchanted forests, but in the courage to overcome challenges and make life more meaningful. In this context, Debosmita Ghosh has been courageously battling muscular atrophy, a condition that gradually weakens the muscles and makes even the simplest physical tasks demanding.

A student of IVWS, Debosmita was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy at the tender age of one, when she began losing her motor skills like standing and walking. A genetically inherited, progressive neurodegenerative condition, it renders the neuron which control muscle movement ineffective in transmitting signals, and the weakened fibres can no longer respond with full strength. For many, such a diagnosis could have become a reason to step back from life’s ambitions. But for Debosmita, it became the very reason to move forward with greater resolve and unwavering strength.

When many schools closed their doors, IVWS opened its arms and welcomed her from Class 1, embracing her potential with empathy and commitment. The school went beyond acceptance, thoughtfully creating an inclusive environment by building ramps, wheelchair-enabled washrooms, and ensuring accessibility in every possible way so that Debosmita could navigate her school life with dignity and independence.

Her school life was not defined by limitations, but by her indomitable spirit. While others hurried through corridors and classrooms, Debosmita’s journey in her wheel chair was slower and more physically taxing—but never less determined. Every page she turned, every lesson she absorbed, and every examination she prepared for was a testament to her inner grit. A voracious reader with a deep love for books, she constantly expanded her horizons beyond the curriculum. At IVWS, Debosmita found an environment that nurtured her potential and encouraged her curiosity, especially in STREAM education.

A mellifluous singer, proficient debater, Olympiad achiever, and a skilled chess player, Debosmita through active participation in inter and intra school events has carved a niche for herself. Her teachers recognized her determination and ensured that she had access to resources that would help her succeed, always motivating her to strive for excellence.

The Class 10 Board Examinations are often considered a significant milestone in a student’s academic life, and for Debosmita, this challenge was multiplied manifold. Yet, she rose above every obstacle, managing her health alongside academic preparation. Her outstanding score of 98.6% along with securing the top position in school with perfect scores in Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence is not just about marks or rank, it is a victory over adversity; it is a proof that physical limitations do not define one’s potential.
