




On 27th February, the Interact Club of Indus Valley World School, Kolkata, extended a helping hand to 315 students of Classes V to X at Subhashpally Kunjabihari Vidyabhavan, Henria, Purba Medinipur, by donating 2000 notebooks,600pens and English Bengali and Numberwork worksheets.
On 30th January 2024 the Interact Club of IVWS donated a 5 litre geyser to the Ashar Alo Girls Home. The students of the Interact club funded the geyser from their bake sales held regularly in school. We are proud of the hard work of our children.
On 16th December 2023, 20 students and 3 senior teachers travelled with the officers of SHER (Society for Heritage and Ecological Research) to the interiors of Sundarbans for the distribution of 100 blankets to the needy and 100 stationery kits for children. They made a 12 hour journey by bus, boat and by foot to reach the interiors.This has become an annual practice for our community service club Interact and the dedication of our students and teachers to this cause is truly exemplary.
On 11th December 2023, a team of 16 students offered their selfless service as volunteers for the Manovikas Kendra Annual Sports. It was an extremely humbling experience for the students as they helped those who are specially abled to enjoy all the races and games organised for them. The organisers had a special race for our IVWS students who worked all throughout the day to make it a special day for all the children at Manovikas Kendra. Our team was ably led by our Interact Club incharge to make it a wonderful day for all the children.
Our students have been bringing Christmas cheer into the lives of many in the last few days. On 14th December the Interact Club donated blankets to the Loreto Mary Ward Social Centre along with 100 stationery kits for underprivileged children. Then the team visited the aged nuns of the Loreto order and delivered blankets for them to ward off the winter chill. On 15th December we sent new clothes, pulses, and rice for all the children of the NGO Universal Smiles. It is our mission to bring smiles on the faces of as many people as possible this Christmas.
On 10 November 2023, after a very successful Diwali evening celebration for the underprivileged children of the school neighbourhood,our Interact Club decided to donate the surplus food to the homeless and needy. They joined hands with an NGO called’ Haath Barale Bondhu’ and gave the food for the needy living on the footpaths near Lake Gardens and Sealdah station. The fresh food was given to the needy that evening itself instead of any wastage to satiate the hunger of the homeless.
Our Interact Club students along with the support of their teachers have been working very hard to set up Bake Sales at the last three Parent Teacher Meetings held on 23, 30 September, and 7 October. They have also organised to bring different NGOs to support their cause and helped them to set up stalls selling their wares, namely the Disha Foundation, Iswar Sankalpa, and the Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy. All three organisations have seen the excellent sale of their wares and have expressed their deep appreciation for the support rendered by the parents and teachers of IVWS.
On 27th September 2023, our Interact Club students visited the old age home Shibasram and spent time with the people staying there. They entertained the old people by singing, reciting and dancing for them. The old age home people were delighted with our students. Our students also donated Horlicks,tea and coffee for the home.
Our Interact Club has been persevering in serving the community by providing essential food supplies to different NGOs across the city. They have visited the following organisations and donated 225 kgs of rice to Paripurnata Home, Nakshatra NGO, and Ishwar Sankalpa. The people incharge of these organisations have expressed their deepest gratitude to the students for extending a helping hand. Our students have also donated educational toys for the young children at the NGO Future Hope. This has all been made possible because of our parents who relentlessly support our community service initiatives.
We are delighted to announce the citation received from Rotary Club Calcutta Chowrenghee for the exemplary service rendered by our community service club Interact of Indus Valley World School. This recognition will spur us on to touch greater heights through our future initiatives.
As an institution that believes in the motto ‘sharing is caring,’ the students of Grades IX-XII were encouraged to donate rice and staples to help two organisations Shishu Tirtha and Premasree that we support every year. We were able to contribute 150 kgs of rice for the ‘Fistful of Grains’ initiative of the Soroptimist International of Calcutta for Shishu Tirtha. The visually impaired students of Premasree received a variety of staples and rice. Both organisations have expressed their profound gratitude to the school as they said the supplies would help to sustain meals for underprivileged children for the next few months.
On 5th August 2023, the Interact Club organised a mandala and doodling competition for the students of the Middle School. Each student participated by buying tickets that would help to fund projects of the club. It was truly heartening to see so many young artists spending such a wonderful Saturday morning in school creating beautiful artwork.
We are overjoyed to announce the recognition of the hard work by our Interactors at the Annual District Meet of Rotary International District 3291 on 28 June 2023. Our two year old club has received awards in the following categories:
1. First in Community Service (medical)
2. First in Care for Differently abled children
3. First in Care for Animals
4. Best Club with 100 members
Our students presented a beautiful dance at the Annual meet and received a lot of appreciation. We wish to congratulate the entire IVWS family of students, parents and teachers for making every community service initiative taken up by Interact Club in the past year a success. We look forward to reaching greater heights as our students continue to serve the community and make us proud.
On 21st June 2023, representatives from the Interact Club distributed 16 sewing kits to the women at Disha Foundation.The kit included a measuring tape, needle set, chalk set, scissors and pins.Future collaborative efforts were also discussed with the Disha representatives so that it can become a continued and long standing process.
In continuation of our relationship with Shibasram, the residential home for senior citizens, our Interactors went and gave sweets for all the 75 residents on 12th April 2023 to mark Poila Baisakh. After school reopened,the Interactors began sorting all old textbooks that were donated by the students, as part of the book collection drive initiated by the club. On 13th April 2023, four large cartons of textbooks were donated for the students of Future Hope School by the club members. We are grateful to our students and their parents for the constant support that makes our community service initiatives a success.
We are very proud to announce that the students of the Middle School donated rice, essentials and toiletries. Our school supports UNIVERSAL SMILES, a free residential home for students of various ages. Our students were able to handover staples on 8th February.This initiative was made possible due to the tremendous support of our parents and students.
As part of our continuing collaboration with Future Hope on 3rd February the students of Indus Valley World School had a wonderful opportunity. They took part in a training session with the Rugby coaches Mahesh Paswan and Raju Karmakar and the students from Future Hope School. After the training session they played a friendly football match.
The four students Ayushi Paul Roy, Kashvi Gupta, Aradhita Ray and Debankita Roy of the IVWS Interact Club participated in the District RYLA Meet from 3rd to 5th February 2023. They engaged with students from various schools at Dhyan Ashram over three days and showcased their talents and participated in multifarious activities. They were accompanied by our Interact Club advisor Ms. Khadija Saleh. We are very proud of their participation and involvement.
